Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup brown sugarpacked
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Brownie Layer
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). To prepare an 8x8-inch baking pan, either grease it thoroughly or line it with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together melted butter and sugar until smooth.
Add eggs and vanilla extract; mix until fully incorporated.
Sift in cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
Transfer the brownie batter into the prepared pan, ensuring it is spread evenly.
Step 2: Prepare the Cookie Layer
In another bowl, combine softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar, and mix until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
Gradually mix in flour, baking soda, and salt until combined.
Fold in the chocolate chips.
Drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough over the brownie batter, gently spreading to cover most of the surface.
Step 3: Bake and Cool
Place the baking pan in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Allow the brookies to cool in the pan for at least 15-20 minutes before cutting them into squares.
Notes
Do not overbake; brookies are best when slightly gooey in the center.
For easy removal, use parchment paper and leave overhangs on two sides.
Add nuts, caramel, or extra chocolate chips for a decadent twist.
